For myself, during my familial holidays, I rode some very contrasted climbs.
Terribly hot Madonne d'Utelle with fabulous landscapes above all crossing the village of Utelle and in front of the chapel up. And terribly cold Vallter 2000 in Spain one week later under tough rain with something like snow up and no view at all. Frozen, so frozen.
Terribly steep with the last three kilometers of Montagne Doublier and terribly not steep with the so easy Poggio di San Remo (not climbed after 300 km, ok!).
Terribly covered and stormy col de Mantet with smog all around and marvelous and astonishing (not shown in the TV) views on the sea during the sunny downhill of the Cipressa.
Contrasted because I made Italy and Spain, having my holidays in France. Contrasted because I reached Mantet and Vallter 2000, one next to the other one, but with a tour with the car of about 120 kilometers to reach the two feet.
Contrasted, but fabulous souvenirs like each BIG in my brain.

Great memories of this year climbed BIGs.
Thanks to the challenge I had the chance to climb to the top of Canigou (from Chalet des Cortalets). VTT till Chalet de Cortalets, but very recommendable. Furthermore, the day, sunny, splendid, at the top of Canigou, at 2784 mts.
Also in the massif du Canigou I climbed Collada de Roques Blanques, from Prats de Mollo. VTT, but too many stones, bad way. I got the number, but I would not recommend it. Maybe we could change for another climb...
I join pictures in both climbs.

Another 2 BIG climb this summer: Larrau and Pierre St Martin, both climbed in the cycloturist Larra-Larrau, celebrated from Isaba this September first. Very recommedable ride: http://www.larra-larrau.com/

In my opinion we must never change de Collade de Roques Blanques. It's a very nice climb with beautiful views. It's quit difficult. But that's one of the challenges of BIG. I climbed the CRB from the top of the Mantet with MTB. It's was one off my finest hours!! A lot off stones offcourse but no problem for the MTB. Dan
You used a CAR!!!?
Well if you can do it....
I'm considering using a hired car to reach the foot of climbs in Spain next year, after your admission! I waste so much time cycling from one climb to another. This year I used ther train a lot in Northern Spain across the north coast - the FEVE service. I recommend it as bikes go free
